Gardening & Farming

Welcome to Daggett Farms!!!

When we are not cooking it up in the kitchen, we are usually out here!!!  My husband, Chad, and I have built this farm and garden all by ourselves!!!…I have to say…  “YES”!!!  We are very proud of that fact and we want to share it with you!  There is always a never ending project whether it be planting, building, or just a little manicure.   We currently have 19 hens and our chicken house was recently featured in the July/August issue of Mississippi Magazine.  http://www.mismag.com/.   “NO”…we do not eat our girls!!!!!  We have raised them since they were balls of fluff and we (and everyone else) loves the absolutely delicious fresh eggs!!!   We have gardens of all kinds surrounding the chicken house as well as our main house…. I will be updating and adding to this page often and sharing our garden and projects!   So, check back often to see what’s happening on the farm!!!

Garden Fresh Vegetables

Garden Fresh Vegetables

7-25-2013…  We have had a great crop of vegetables this year!!!  Chad got a lot of it in the ground in the early part of the Spring.  We were lucky that it didn’t freeze…  I will say some of the tomato plants got just a little frost bit but they came through and produced well.        We put in another  4 x 8 raised  garden bed which allowed us to add some more plants.  The raised beds are really the way to go for small back yard gardens.  Chad is “the Man” on the raised beds…  He wants me to add a tutorial on making them which I am planning to do…. when I get around to it!!! …………….Anyhow, I also wanted to share one of our favorite gardening sites in Alabama that we order some of our vegetables and heirloom tomatoes from.  http://www.tastefulgarden.com/  They have a great selection of vegetables and herbs that you just can’t find around here.  Their plants are always healthy when they arrive and we have always had great success with them!!!  We do buy some of our plants from Lowe’s (that’s local for us)…  But I always say you better get them before they have a chance to kill them!!!
